of cuisine and collisions...

Well, Turkey weekend was a crazy weekend.  A splendid few days away from the office were punctuated by David getting in car accident (someone came through a red light) with Frasier riding in the passenger seat (=emergency vet appointment, he's fine, but basically has doggie whiplash and is enjoying some corgi pain killers--if he ends up shoplifting from Neiman Marcus I'm totally blaming our pill wielding vet).  Dinner at Bama's was awesome, so great that it overcame her queenie boss ways.  The turkey, which she prepared by salting and covering with herbs Wednesday, was delicious and moist.  As always, the highlight of the meal for me is ham and sides: yams, butternut squash, Jamie's amazing corn pudding, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and of course, the piece de resistance, RED CHILI GRAVY.  It took me 36 hours to recover from all that food.  Spent the rest of the weekend with the brothers Willhoite and Mimi, a pretty chill weekend of dining, lounging, chatting, and goofing.  Mostly, it was just about enjoying time not spent in front of the computer and under the flourescent glow of my office.

Today, I am proud to say that I finalized all the car buying and tomorrow I will sign papers and take possession of a silver honda element 2wd EX all my own.  CANNOT WAIT.   Tonight, David and I are enjoying a blissful evening at home; we have some poulet basquaise on the range (courtesy of Anthony Bourdain's Les Halles Cookbook), glasses of naia, a solid chunk of Truffle Tremor (thanks for the recommendation Aunt Jamie!!), some kenny burrell on the hi-fi, and, perhaps best of all, nowhere to be but here.   The simple things dear readers, the simple things.

I'm glad to hear Frasier is going to be okay, but how about David and his car? That VW has been through some serious crap.
